How To Make Kaiser Rolls

In Austria, Kaiser rolls started to be made in the 1700s. The curved shape on top of the bun resembles the emperor’s crown. The shapes of Kaiser rolls can be obtained through the Kaiser roll stamp. The stamp can be purchased from any store or purchased online. Similarly, the shape of an x on top of the roll can be done using kitchen shears.

The Ingredients To Make The Kaiser Rolls

There are many ingredients to make kaiser rolls. The ingredients include active yeast, egg, milk, butter, salt, sugar, water, and sesame seeds. The quantity of all these ingredients depends on the quantity of  Kaiser rolls.

Steps To Make Kaiser Rolls

  1.  Measure four and a half cups of flour in a bowl to make the Kaiser rolls. Add sugar, salt, yeast, and hot water and mix for 1 minute. After that, add egg and butter to it. Push the mixture down to make it smooth. Then remove the sides of the bowl. Stir in the remaining half cup of flour to make the dough solid and soft mass.
  1. The second step is using a lightly floured surface to knead it. It must take 15 minutes. Add additional flour to prevent your hand from sticking.
  1. After kneading the dough, please place it in a large bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. To increase the volume of dough, you need to put the dough in a warmer place for about half an hour. Then uncover the dough and push it down with your fingers. Again put plastic wrap on it and provide heat for about 40 minutes.
  1. Cover the baking sheet with parchment paper when ready to form and bake the rolls. Divide the sheet into ten equal pieces and shape it like a ball. Flatten each roll, and then spread the lighter flour. Kaiser stamps make the shape on top of rolls. Press down firmly and cut down to the bottom. Repeat the same with other balls. Use Kaiser shear if you do not have a Kaiser stamp.
  1. Sesame seeds are used to sprinkle the parchment-lined baking sheet. After shaping and stamping each roll, place the stamped side down on the sheet. It will be helpful to retain the shape of the rolls. After that, cover the rolls with paper and leave them at room temperature to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  1. On the lower rack of the oven, place the large-rimmed pan. It is preparing the oven for the final rise of the volume of dough. Then preheat the oven to 460F. Before the rolls are ready to make, pour a cup of hot water into the pan. It will provide moisture for the rolls.
  1. After that, uncover the rolls. And then spray the rolls with water. In the middle of the oven, a baking sheet is placed. Bake for 4 minutes and then spray the interior of the oven. Bake for another 20 minutes. The color is betting browned after 20 minutes. 
  1. Remove the rolls from the sheet and cool them on a wire rack. Finally, the kaiser rolls are prepared. And the kaiser rolls recipe is the same but the taste can be different. If you eat it with jam, it will be very delicious.
